Water Conservation

Think about it....if you save your water you can save the world's water as every little count.

So time to conserve your water!!!

Sewage Treatment Plants

One way to solve the problem of water pollution is to clean the sewage before it enters the sea. The Sewage Treatment Plant 'cleans' this 'dirty' water and throws it back into the sea. This 'cleaned' water can also be used by farmers to irrigate (water) their crops. Humans can use it to drink it as well. Many Hotels in the Maltese Islands use this system and in turn they are conserving water.

Look at how the Sewage Treatment Plant at ta' Barkat Malta works.

Desalination Plant in the Maltese Islands

Have a look at how a Desalination Plant (Reverse Osmosis Plant) works. This plant is situated near the sea as it needs sea water to be able to produce fresh water. This means that this plant changes sea water into fresh drinking water.

The main sources of water in the Maltese Islands

The two main sources of drinking water in the Maltese Islands are Underground water and Desalination Plants. The third BUT NOT the main source of water is the water caught on house roofs and stored in underground water tanks (bjar). This water is used for washing the car, watering plants etc.. and it is also used by Factories.

Water Facts

What happens when water falls on different surfaces?
......when it falls on tarmac?
Water does not pass through tarmac and so it forms surface water until it evaporates (water turns into gas).

What happens when water falls on different surfaces?
......when it falls on sand?
Water sinks quite quickly into the ground.

What happens when water falls on different surfaces?
......when it falls on sand?
Water sinks very quickly into the ground.

What happens when water falls on different surfaces?
......when it falls on Grass?
Water sinks very slowly into the ground

  8. 1 idea for obtaining fresh water is to tow ice bergs from the Arctic to the antarctic to places lacking fresh water .When the icebergs arrive all you need to do is to wait for them to melt. All you need to do is collect the fresh water. But no 1 has found a way to do so yet.My idea takes a big ship to do so.A big ship sort of the 1s that bring containers only modified whit an empty pool a really big 1. The modified ships can go and fill the pools whit water once this is done they can take water to these water lacking places.the only thing is that this takes alot of time to be done so some of the ice might melt and that`s why we have the pool, food stocs the workers take might run low so we will put a mini garden to grow crobs the next problem is the meat so they fish for fish we need to put a medical bench in case some1s ill or hurt , kitchen , bed rooms the only problems left are fuel and the polution. the other problem is electricity which will be provided by solar panels.

    1. This would need time to sink in as an idea but it may be a start. I like to see students making their research to find sustainable ways to manage our resources. Well done :)
